Tuesday February 3rd
We begin our tour with an overnight flight to São Paulo departing from Chicago O'Hare Airport. Dinner will be served on board the plane. D
Wednesday February 4th
Today we arrive in São Paulo, Brazil's largest city and most important commercial center. We will have a guided city tour including the cathedral, trade center, municipal theater, suburbs, Paulista Avenue, Ibirapuera Park, Government Assembly and the Japanese suburbs. From there we will proceed to our local hotel where we will have a welcome dinner and reception by Jim West from AG Trips. B,L,D
Thursday February 5th
After our breakfast we will check out of our hotel and depart for the São Paulo Agriculture Federation, the most important agriculture policy group in the state. Here we will discuss agriculture policies, marketing and trade. We then depart to visit the worlds largest vegetable and flower market and see 10,000 tons of produce and flowers change hands. You will have free time to talk to the local buyers and sellers. We will then travel to Campinas which passes through rich agriculture lands producing oranges, sugar cane, coffee, grain and livestock. We will then check into our hotel where the remainder of the evening is on your own to check out local shopping and resturants. B
Friday February 6th
After a hearty breakfast we check out of our hotel and visit the Secretary of Agriculture from the state of São Paulo. We will have workshops on animal disease control, animal sanitation, livestock regulations, fruit and vegetable sanitary controls and market requirements. We will then visit the Agua Branca hog farm, the largest in the state. You will have the opportunity to talk to management regarding nutrition, sanitation, breeding, feeding, meat processing, packaging, marketing, cost and returns. From there we travel to Ribeirao Preto, center of the sugar and ethanol production. After checking into our hotel the rest of the evening is on your own for you to explore this colorful agriculture and commercial center. B
Saturday February 7th
After checking out of hotel we will tour the local area's major sugar and ethanol plants. We will have time to talk to management about their technology and their roll in producing 38% of the world's sugar and 16 billion liters of ethanol per year. We will then continue on to Barretos, the TEXAS of Brazil, and beef cattle center where we will visit the Pedro Ranch, a large cow-calf and finishing operation. We will again have the opportunity to speak with management about breeding, feeding, pasture management and bull selection. We will then check into our hotel and eat at at a local resturant as a group. B, D
Sunday February 8th
We depart our hotel and travel the “Orange Road,” where we will pass miles of orange groves. We will stop and visit a leading orange grower, who also breeds champion horses. The owner will talk about his 85,000 orange trees and 250,000 box production. We will have the opportunity to inspect the Brazilian elite horse breed, Magna Larga. We will then board our bus to the State of Parana, the fourth largest grain growing state in Brazil. After checking into our hotel, the remainder of the evening is on your own. B
Monday February 9th
Today we will visit two of Brazil's cooperatives. The first is Cocamar, which produces top quality vegetable oils, roasted coffee, fruit juices and silk. This cooperative also sells its members fertilizer, seeds, fuel and machinery. Then we move to Coamo cooperative, one of the top grain cooperatives in Brazil. This cooperative serves farmers producing soybeans, peanuts, wheat and black beans. After we check into our hotel we will gather for dinner at a local resturant. B, D
Tuesday February 10th
Today after breakfast we depart for the city of Ceu Azul where we will will see a 1100 hectare, 310 cow dairy farm. We will again have the opportunity to visit with management about their high quality technology system and their market and profitability system. We then continue on to Iguassu Falls, one of the great wonders of South America. After checking into the hotel the rest of the evening is on your own to enjoy other visitors from around the world. B
Wednesday February 11th
Today we visit the Itaipu hydroelectric power plant, which supplies 25% of Brazil's and 90% of Paraguay's power. We will then visit the Iguassu Falls National Park, including a four wheel drive guided safari, and an excursion in a powered rubber dinghy under the falls and into the “Devil's Throat.” We will enjoy a “farewell dinner” at a local resturant. Thursday February 12th
Today we transfer to Iguassu Airport for our flight back to São Paulo and on to Chicago O'Hare. B,L
